I did not get my first cell phone until after I graduated high school. Todd's dad built us our 1st computer shortly after we were married. We used dial up Internet it seems like forever! I try to think back to the time before I had a cell phone, computer and high speed Internet, but for the life of me don't know how I survived. Now that I splurged on a iPhone & iPad I can't imagine my life without them. Seriously if you have not made the change to a smart phone you don't know what you are missing! Trust me when I say you will love it!! MandyE I am talking to you!! :):)
My kids won't ever know a life without these perks. They will be raised with smart phones, digital notepads, and so much more. They can operate the apps on my iPhone and iPad better than me. It amazes me how fast the maneuver between the different kid apps. Craziness, I tell you!!
This is Molly playing on my niece, Kayla's iPod. Doesn't she look way beyond her 3 years?!?! What are your thoughts?? Too much? I feel if monitored and limited....no harm done. Many of the kids apps have actually broadened M & L's knowledge.

D'oh! Busted!!! :) :)
My aunt sent my girls an "iPod" toy that plays kiddie songs. I had to laugh that they got one before I did! :)
It's not that I'm opposed to technology...and I KNOW I'd enjoy some shiny new gadgets. It's just that I'm afraid I'll be online even more than I already am! And for the sake of my kitchen countertops and laundry piles, that probably wouldn't be a good thing. HA!
I'm torn! I think the electronics are great (and I too remember all to well using dial up and getting my first cell phone after I graduated from HS!), BUT, I don't know where I am going to stand when I actually have to decide when they can have their own Ipod or cell phone or laptop. I mean, what is "normal" anymore?! Our girls want to play with our phones, but only because they light up. Once they figure out that they can play games and music and do all kinds of other cool stuff I fear I won't get to have my phone much anymore! And is that okay? I don't know!
Overall if it helps them learn, I guess I say go for it! =)
I think it's awesome. :)
I'm married to a techy as well so my kids will always have access to these things.
Santa gave our girls their own 'iphones' (really ipod touches) for Christmas. They are a lifesaver on car trips and during long meals at restaurants. I don't let them play with them often, so it is a treat when they do. And a lot of the apps are really educational. It beats them always asking for mine and Adam's!
She looks like she's got that like a pro. My cousin has a two year old who can purchase apps on her ipad. The twins have figured out the obvious things like how a laptop opens. UH-O, I sense this is a generation thing...
That's really cute! Isn't it crazy how much technology changes? I didn't have my first cell phone until I was in college, and yet my 4 year olds are already questioning when they'll have their own phones and constantly asking to play with mine!
I love that you called MandyE out! I nearly choked the day she told me she had a little prepaid! It made me feel savvy with pre-smartphone flip phone. I totally agree that I don't think I could live without my smartphone. I'm a mac addict! Have been for years, but the smartphone is a thing of pure genius! Shopping in the palm of my hand-YES PLEASE!
I will admit that I only have the slowest level of DSL, but since I got my new phone I'm not on the computer nearly as much. I can do things on my phone in between other tasks. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is a bit excited about technology!
I don't have a smart phone yet either. I'd really love to get an iPhone now that they work with Verizon, but the cost of the phone and service plan just aren't in our budget right now. Someday...
T has an iPad and let's the kids play games on it on Saturday mornings when I'm sleeping in, but only if they've been good sleepers all week (or at least most of the week). It keeps them quiet, so I can actually get a little more sleep, and they love it! I think in small doses, there's nothing wrong with a little screen time every now and then.
I don't let the Crazies play with this stuff yet. We don't have an iPad, but when Matt was given the opportunity to play with my sister's, he promptly stood up while it was still on his lap and I stood by helplessly as it tumbled to the floor. Husband and I looked at each other and were like, "yeah...not yet."
Geez...what will they have by the time they're in high school???
