Growing Pickles

My kids love pickles...especially Luke! When my Mom and I were shopping for plants at a local green house she spotted a cucumber hanging basket. She thought it would be a good way to show Molly and Luke where pickles come from! :) Everyday they get to water their "pickle" plant! So far we only have one cucumber growing, but it sure is a pretty cucumber if you ask me!! What do you think?

Side note- please excuse Miss Molly's hair...it was still early! ;-)

What a fun learning experience for them. My in-laws bought the girls a blueberry plant - when they were ripe, the C & G got to pick them and 'help' make blueberry pancakes. They talk about it all the time. Can't wait to see the pictures of Molly and Luke 'helping' pickle that cucumber and eating it! :)

If you have a farm near by or make friends with the produce clerk all you'll need is a flat of pickling cucumbers, a packet of seasoning, and some mason jars to make your own! We do it every year! I'm sure they would love it!!

I can't wait to start a real garden with the girls. I am just paranoid about "critters" and our devil dogs destroying the fun.

A great lesson! The cucumber is thriving - just needs some friends now and you can all have some salad! x

A cucumber hanging basket? That actually grows them? I need that. So bad.

Hi! It's Cathy from My Life as Described. Thanks for stopping by my blog, for your prayers so long ago and for sticking around and following me. :) Really appreciate it.

Your Molly and Luke are SOOO stinkin cute. Oh my goodness. Three seems like a fun age... I'm sure a lot of work, but so fun too! LOVE Molly and her new "pickle" plant!

Excited to get to know you all better and to keep up with your adventures!

Hi there. I just found you thru the Me! Challenge and wanted to say hello. My grandmother used to can her own cucumbers to make pickles every year. We grew up in the house next to her which was great fun. My sister would go over to her house every day to eat pickles. To this day, she steals pickles from my refrigerator whenever she comes over. My youngest son is now carrying on the tradition. He'll eat pickles for breakfast if I let him!! BLAH!! :)

What an awesome experiment for M&L! And a very beautiful cucumber, I agree! :)

I still remember going to my grandmother's garden with her. Definitely a great childhood memory. :)

How great! You, too, have your own little science project going on! Such a great way to learn about plant life and where their food comes from. I hope you get some delicious little pickle out of it!

Last year, we planted pumpkins. We started growing them inside, and then transferred them outside once they started getting too big. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where things ended. Some animal or bug got or our plant and none of them survived. Perhaps we'll try again sometime with something better for our conditions.
